Why is the Church so silent? Where is the prophetic element in our worship music? Where are the prophetic psalmists and prophetic musicians?
Music and prophetic ministry are closely linked. We see in scripture (2Kings 3:15) that when the prophet was called upon to prophesy he first asked for a minstrel. After the minstrel played he was then able to prophesy. It is evident then from this incident that music by its very nature lends itself in some way to the prophetic. Scripture also bears record to the prophetic ministry of music in such passages as 1 Chronicles chapter 25 where King David instructs his musicians to "prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals." The blowing of the trumpet in scripture is also associated with prophetic declaration.
In these last days then, the music of God's people through prophetic ministries should also surely be a trumpet call to this generation, both to the world as a warning of things to come, and to God's own people of the things pertaining to the hour in which we live. Prophetic Music has a unique way of expressing the heart, and in these days the Bridegroom has a passion for His bride that must be captured by those prophetic musicians who spend time enough in His presence, to bring the heart of the Father to His people and capture our hearts for Him.
So what is God saying today? Are we so devoid of prophetic revelation that we must continue to resort to cliched expressions of praise and worship that are so well-worn that they have become meaningless? "Behold I do a new thing, shall you not know it?" Where then is the new prophetic worship sound? Where is the "thus saith the Lord" in todays christian music? And watchman, "what of the night?" You whose appointment is to "watch and see what He will say to me", whose sound are you listening to? Give your ear to heaven, and heaven will lend you her voice. Then the earth shall hear again the sound that men's hearts crave for. Then shall the earth be filled with the glory of the Lord, and none other.
