Wholehearted Love for God

God’s love for us was demonstrated in such a powerful, precious way through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”. Romans 5:8 NKJV

We are never left wondering “does He love me, does He love me not”. This seesaw of love that often occurs in the natural is polar opposite to the love of Christ. God’s love for us is never based on performance or formula. His love is constant and everlasting. If we ignore His love, He remains faithful. If we refuse to respond, His love remains constant. God’s incredible act of love and sacrifice however compels a response within us. The demonstration of God’s love for mankind shows us what our Father is like. God is Love, and as His children we have the amazing privilege of responding in love in return.

Mark 12:30 tells us to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” (NKJV). When we receive His love, our automatic response is wholehearted love for God in return. So how do we love God with everything within us?

Wholehearted love for God encompasses more than just singing words of love to God on Sunday. Love for God can be seen through our actions, thoughts and conversations with others.

"God’s love for us is never based on performance or formula. His love is constant and everlasting."

We were created to love God with all our heart - all its passions, desires and dreams. Our soul and personality were created to love God. Our intellect and mind were made to love God. Even our strengths and abilities were designed as an outlet of demonstrating our love to God.

As we use our heart, our soul, our mind and strength to love God; our wholehearted love for Him becomes visible to those around us. It’s always easy to notice someone who is in love! Today as we give and receive God’s love, imagine what it would look like to reflect that love to the world around us.

That you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height – to know the love of Christ” Ephesians 3:17-19 NKJV
