Discovering Hope in the Heartache

Hope is described as being an anchor. It is what holds us in place when we feel like our ship is being knocked about. Hope is more than wishing for something to happen but it is a confident expectation that good is going to happen.

We increase in hope when we increase in truth. When we discover God's truth about a situation, we will always abound in hope. Whatever heartache you are experiencing, or any situation that is in front of you, remember that God's truth brings us hope. It is this knowledge which strengthens us and is the anchor that holds us firm regardless of circumstances.

So discover the truth in your situation. When you discover God's truth and perspective on situations, hope begins to rise. Once truth is planted in our hearts, hope becomes less of a survival mode and more of a confident trust and anticipation that God is in charge.

I heard it preached once, “If there is any area of your life that does not glisten with hope, then you have believed a lie.” What is the lie that you are believing? As believers in the kingdom of God we are never without hope, because the God of hope has said He would never leave us nor forsake us. The Christian has hope, because we do not look to ourselves, but to the God of hope. We are not like the world that has no hope. The world only has wishful thinking that can evaporate in a moment, but we have an anchor of hope, a strong foundation of Christian biblical hope in Jesus Christ, our Saviour. Jesus said, “Ask of Me, that your joy may be full.” He wants to fill our soul with hope, so we can continue to hold on to the promises of the Word, and experience fullness of joy in believing until the complete possession of our faith has its manifestation in the earth. David said, “I would have despaired if I had not believed the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.”

Those who place their hope in God have this marvellous promise: “This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil.” (Hebrews 6:19 NKJV)

Our hopes and dreams enter the very presence of God. There, Jesus intercedes for all that is dear to us, and for all those secret longings of the heart that are known only to Him. And the Holy Spirit also, makes intercession for us according to the will of God, for He searches our hearts.

"Good things happen to people who know that God loves them."

You may be struggling with issues that seem beyond hope. You may find yourself in a situation like Abraham who was facing impossible circumstances, and yet he “hoped against hope.” You may be asking yourself, “is there any hope left for me?” Friend, the God of all hope has given you a reason to hope, and it is this: “there is nothing impossible to him who believes.” Good things happen to people who know that God loves them. Just believe. It’s not about us, it’s about Him. Look to the Rock from which you were hewn, and see the salvation of God.

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 NLT
